LETI Suspension and the Mayflower Election Commission Dispute

A major institutional dispute developed Sunday afternoon after Governor orangebear22 suspended the Law Enforcement Training Institute (LETI) and attempted to reverse a candidate disqualification issued by the Mayflower Election Commission (MEC).

The Governor issued an executive directive to the MEC demanding that disqualified candidate Derogatoryyy be restored to the ballot for the Lee County Sheriff election:

To the MEC:
I’ve been made aware, through mode of appeal, that Mr. Derogatoryyy has been disqualified from the Lee County Sheriff’s Election for lack of a Law Enforcement Training Institute Certification. While in regular circumstances such a disqualification would be valid, there are several key assertions to be made as to why this must be reversed.

1. As of 11:23 PM EST, Friday October 18, all operations of the Law Enforcement Training Institute were suspended and halted. Subsequently, the need to possess a certificate was also nullified. This change was made to promote activity in the state, and my administration plans to take a different approach to LETI as the group Is in its most volatile and early stages.
2. Derogatoryyy is qualified as a law enforcement officer and has held a LETI certificate from numerous states including Noah’s and Clark. That’s it. That’s the assertion.
3. All other candidates with the Lee County Sheriff election do not have a LETI certificate. LETI is in its very early stages and should not be considered as a prerequisite for anything, including department employment.

Pursuant to my authority under Art V, Sec 3 of the State Constitution, I hereby reverse the disqualification of Mr. Derogatoryyy from the Lee County Sheriff Election, subsequently reinstating his candidacy. His name shall appear on all ballots distributed across the State and County and his God given right to campaign and partake in this election cycle shall be restored.

Failure to comply by this directive will result in civil action by the Department of Justice.

The Mayflower Election Commission rejected the Governor's directive, publishing an official statement affirming that Derogatoryyy remains disqualified:

The Mayflower Election Commission acknowledges receipt of the Governor’s directive concerning the disqualification of Derogatoryyy from the Lee County Sheriff election.

After review, the Commission maintains that the disqualification remains in effect, and Derogatoryyy shall not appear on the ballot unless and until the Central Authority overturns the decision.

The Governor’s directive addresses the suspension of the Law Enforcement Training Institute and the associated certification requirement. However, Section 7-8 of the Lee County Charter separately requires qualifying employment with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. The directive does not expressly remove or resolve that independent eligibility requirement. Accordingly, the Commission maintains that the candidate does not satisfy the applicable Charter requirements.

Pursuant to Sections 100.02, 100.03, and 400.02 of the Election Governing Regulations, the Commission retains authority over candidate eligibility, ballot access, and disqualification, exercised under the authority delegated by the Central Authority.

The Mayflower Election Commission recognizes the Central Authority as the sole authority empowered to overrule its determination in this matter. Accordingly, the Governor’s directive does not alter the Commission’s decision, and Derogatoryyy remains disqualified from the Lee County Sheriff election unless the Central Authority directs otherwise.
